Christmas Home Gift Ideas 2025: Stylish and Practical Presents

A gift for the home is practical and welcome for hosts and hostesses, and won’t end up in the re-gifting box in the New Year

It’s the time of year when Gwyneth Paltrow and her Goop Christmas gift list emerges in all its over-indulgence and a certain number of suggestions bordering on the ridiculous, or at least ridiculously priced.

Pasta water candle, anyone? At a cool €70 it introduces a cooking smell rather than dispels it as we’d normally expect of a scented candle. It could be the natural follow on for anyone who abandoned sliced pan last year to spring for the Goop €65 loaf of bread to make turkey stuffing sandwiches on St Stephen’s Day.

This year there’s also an ashtray (do they still make those?) coming in at a cool €1,400. Previous years have included a home sauna for close to €4,000 and the aspirational €2,000 gong stand for summoning everyone to the Christmas dinner table. Even more aspirational was the 2018 inclusion of an abandoned village in Spain’s Galicia on sale for around €250,000.

But all of us interiors aficionados tend to be practical people with an eye for style, who often consider the best Christmas gift is one for the home. EZ Living Interiors has us covered with goodies for under the tree, to fill a stocking and to take visiting.

Best Christmas Decor Gifts: Lamps, Trays and Trunks

Dear Santa…

Please bring us some lovely table lamps. They’re endlessly useful, and in winter you can’t have enough of them for creating a cosy warming glow. The Caja marble lamp (€89) with its slim cylindrical shade is one for a more compact side table leaving room for coffee and mince pies.

Trays are endlessly useful for everything from serving drinks to gathering a little vignette of scented candle, vase and books on a coffee table. A gold or silver round tray (€17) brings a touch of glamour; a matt black pair (€16), or sage green duo (€17) would suit a more contemporary interior.

Just about the right size for fitting under the tree is the Lennox trunk (€399) with its vintage style and endless function. Site it in the living room as a coffee table and use it to store toys after the kiddies have gone to bed. Another is the Dalton leather and rattan (€269) looking like it stepped off a 1950s ocean-going liner and equally useful for putting your feet up.

Hosting Gift Ideas 2025: Thoughtful Gifts for Holiday Visits

Over the holidays there’s bound to be an invitation to come for turkey soup or afternoon tea by the fire. You can’t go wrong taking a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates as a host’s gift, but if you’d like to give something of more lasting value, a gift bag with a few thoughtfully chosen items amounts to a fun lucky bag for grown-ups.

Pick up a ponsietta plant and put it in a wonderfully whimsy Dolomite dog planter. Add a vintage-style glass bauble shaped like a wrapped gift, or a craft-style felt Christmas tree ornament for a Scandi touch. If there are kiddies in the house, include a Bird-On-A-Pinecone ornament for them to add to their tree and when they’re grown up, they can have in their home.

Cosy Christmas Accessories: Cushions, Throws and Pyjama-Day Comfort

You know those days between Christmas and New Year when you’re full of cheese and chocolate but not quite sure what day of the week it is? Chances are you know the simple joy of staying in your pyjamas all day, indulging in the sloth of the season and a bed to sofa existence.

Someone who knows your love of a comfortable home might like to pick up a few soft accessories to help with maximum relaxation.

The Christmas Town cushion is a subtle choice with its sketch-style depiction of a snowy townscape to stuff into a Christmas stocking. The Stripe Bow cushion in red and white plays to the bow trend we’re seeing in everything from tree decorations to tablescapes. And then there are winter must-have throws.

Get ready for every night being movie night until New Year with the cream stripe throw  with all the snuggly goodness of faux fur, or a seasonal woolly tartan throw.
