EZ Living Interiors wins Furniture Store of the Year at the Retail Excellence Awards

Hard work and relentless creativity have paid off with well-deserved recognition from the retail industry for EZ Living Interiors.

It is twelve years since EZ Living Interiors opened its flagship store in Sandyford, Co. Dublin. Now the store has received the ultimate accolade, taking home the coveted Furniture Store of the Year 2025 trophy at the Retail Excellence Awards.

Amid fierce competition, the retailer’s ever-evolving creativity and pursuit of excellence has built up a shopping experience that is now officially second to none. This achievement is rooted in the vision of co-founder Caroline White, whose discerning design eye continues to influence the layout and presentation of the store.

“Caroline has always had a strong creative vision and a deep commitment to bringing something unique and inspiring to the interiors industry in Ireland,” says Emma Doyle, EZ Living Interiors’ multi-site manager. “She has empowered customers for years to create homes that reflect their personality, style and dreams.”

This vision is evident throughout the flagship store, which features carefully curated design moments, pathways that guide customers through inspiring room sets and the Parlour Room. This unique space incorporates salvaged Georgian windows and offers a glimpse into where the Style Stories podcast is recorded. The series has welcomed leading figures from the Irish design world and celebrity homeowners, including architect and television personality Hugh Wallace and Ireland AM presenter Muireann O’Connell.

The store has also become known as an experiential destination for interiors lovers. Throughout the year it hosts Style Stories interior design events where customers can meet well-known designers and hear expert advice. Seasonal activities such as wreath-making workshops, paint and prosecco evenings and shopping incentive events draw regular crowds. The store also offered complimentary matcha to customers this autumn, offering customers an unexpected, refreshing treat while they browsed. Visitors at the moment will also experience the Artist in Residence programme, which showcases original Irish art available for purchase from both established artists and rising talents.

Behind everything customers experience in-store is a dynamic visual merchandising team led by regional visual merchandising manager Aimee O Donovan. She describes an exceptional interiors store as one that tells a story the moment you walk in.

“There must be an element of surprise and delight, something new, inspiring and exciting for customers every time they visit,” she says. “A welcoming environment is essential, as well as immersive room sets that show customers what is possible in their own homes, right down to the finishing touches that bring a full look together. And, of course, the cushions should always be chopped.”

Judges, however, come with a different agenda from customers. If a store is to win an award, it must show excellence in detail, execution and innovation.

“We put so much thought, creativity and heart into every detail of our Sandyford store and we hoped the judges would feel that from the moment they arrived,” says Aimee O Donovan.

“A major focus for us this year was showcasing the exceptional skills in our visual merchandising team and giving each member the opportunity to shine. Henrique Lima, who is a trained florist, created impactful floral installations that brought artistry, freshness and craft to life. Kyle Connolly, who is a tailor and sewist, applied his specialist skills to design and construct our textile and cushion displays, including the suspended cushion installation. It is something playful, unexpected and executed with genuine expertise.”

Window displays continued this storytelling approach, including a fully styled podcast recording room, a heritage furniture theme and a futuristic interior guided by the creativity of store visual merchandiser Sarah Dunne. These immersive displays were further strengthened through collaboration with the brand’s graphic design and creative teams.

While the award recognises excellence in design and retail execution, for the Sandyford team the win carries a deeper meaning. It comes after four years of entering the awards, refining the store experience and taking on board every insight from the Retail Excellence judges.

“This achievement is the result of extraordinary hard work from countless people across our business,” says Emma Doyle. “There have been long nights, early mornings and unwavering commitment from our team, including the late Sara Tobin, who worked in our Sandyford store and who we dedicate our Christmas Room to.” Sara Tobin remains a cherished  figure within the EZ Living Interiors family. Known for her warmth, spirit and immense creativity, she played a key role in shaping the festive experience in-store and brought joy, artistry and heart to everything she touched. Her colleagues often speak of her determination and her ability to uplift the people around her. The Christmas Room, created in her memory, is a place where her passion for the season and her lasting influence can continue to be felt. For many on the team, this award feels deeply connected to her memory.
